HVO Verification Scheme is a sustainability verification system designed to verify biofuel’s compliance with the sustainability criteria embedded in the European Union Renewable Energy Directive (EU RED). HVO Verification Scheme was approved by the European Commission (EC) in 2014.
Like other certification systems approved by the EC, also HVO Verification Scheme system is audited by an independent third party. The system enables certifying biofuel produced from all kinds of biomass. It is currently used to verify EU RED compliance of biofuels based on waste and residue raw materials.
The system development has been led by Neste, the world's leading producer of renewable diesel and other premium-quality, low-carbon solutions for various industrial uses. Neste is the world's largest producer of renewable fuel from waste and residues; nearly 80% of the production of its low-carbon products is based on waste and residues
Sustainability is at the core of Neste's strategy. The company has been included in the Dow Jones Sustainability World and Europe Indices for the past 10 consecutive years, as well as in the Global 100 list of the world's most sustainable companies.
